WASHINGTON, D.C. February 19, 2021 — Yesterday, Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Representative Linda Sanchez (D-CA-38) introduced the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 to comprehensively reform portions of our outdated immigration system.

“For the first time in years, there is legislation that provides a starting point for lawmakers to discuss the myriad facets of our immigration system that have been failing Americans and immigrants for decades,” said Kristie De Peña, Niskanen’s director of immigration. “Lawmakers must capitalize on this opportunity and begin good-faith conversations in earnest,” De Peña concluded.

The bill creates an expedited pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, among other reforms for TPS recipients, workers, and the immigration court system.
