Zachary Porreca is an incoming Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Law, Economics, and Sociology at Magna Græcia University, a research affiliate at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA); and a researcher in the Crime, Law, and Economic Analysis (CLEAN) Research Unit at Bocconi University, where he previously spent three years as a postdoctoral research fellow and as an SSRC-Arnold Ventures Criminal Justice Innovation Fellow. Porreca’s research focuses on the economics of crime and criminal justice policy, with particular attention to drug markets, narcotics enforcement, organized crime, informal governance, and urban public safety. His work combines applied microeconomic methods with attention to institutional context and collaboration with criminal justice practitioners, including prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, and policy organizations. Across his research, he employs a broad range of empirical tools and seeks to make modest methodological contributions. Porreca’s research has been published in journals including the Journal of Urban Economics, Public Choice, Economica, and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. He earned a doctorate and a master’s degree in economics from West Virginia University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Bloomsburg University.
